Could someone rescue me?! Wink I am having a difficult time differentiating between the various documents listed. I am referring to pages 19-20 of Week 23. I have found (thankfully) all the poems in my copy of Norton's. I can't seem to locate Section VI of the "Age of Reason and Enlightenment Frameworks" document. We also have never done an analysis before and am not sure what info to consult to guide my students to complete the analysis outline on page 20. I looked on my Loom for the "Poetry Analysis" and came up empty. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! Well, I guess the first question is, do you have first printing or second printing of Year 2 (you can tell by looking at the title page of the unit, which gives the copyright and tells which printing it is)?

Based on what you find there, you may need to be directed to a document called Poetics. Also, if this is your first time with poetry analysis, I'd advise you not to assign the analysis outline to your students to complete ahead of time. Instead, I would just review the outline with them in class. :0)

If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Thank you, Christy, for your speedy reply! I have first printing. I did finally find the poetry analysis on my Loom disk, so that is one mystery solved. Where would I find "Poetics?"

Ah, well, Poetics is new for the second printing, so you don't have it. Which is good for you, because that would only add confusion to your life! I'm glad you were able to find the right document. :-) Oh, and here's just a bit of advice... Week 23 is a tough week, so if you want to skip some of the lectures and just focus on the poetry analysis outline, I'd say go right ahead! The students will be reading all that stuff in Frameworks, but you don't necessarily need to recap it in class if you find it overwhelming. :-)

We are ready to start Week 23 tomorrow (I need to start looking at the lesson plans before Sunday since I keep running into problems).

I found the Author Descriptions Index on The Loom so I know what the kids need to read for that...
BUT there is no section VI in either Age of Reason nor Englightenment frameworks section... there is nothing entitled new genres that emerged in England in 1603-1660...
I guess we'll start the week reading about the authors and reading the poems.... and hopefully I'll have an answer as to what the other readking assignment is prior to Thursday

I just read the correction to the SAP for week 23 and that has me more confused now...
it says to read Age of Reason framework (found that) about "genres of imaginative literature" (can't find this section for the life of me) during the 17th century....
Help please!!!

Hi! First of all, I'm sorry for the confusing directions. :-/ Secondly, don't worry---the section you need does exist (I wrote it myself) and should be on your Loom (unless something very weird has occurred). We just have to help you find it. :-)

Here's what I'd like you to do: use the search feature and look for the word "ode" in the Age of Reason Frameworks document. If that doesn't turn up anything, try a search for "epigram." If you find both those words in the same section, that is the section you want.

Please let me know how that works!

So in reality the section to be read is called "Classical and Neoclasical Poetry....."????
Is that the only part or should one read beyond that???

I don't personally have that document, which is making it harder for me to direct you, but yes, that sounds right. If the next section is about genres that continued on from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance (e.g. the sonnet), then you want to have your students read that too.

Basically, there are one or two sections in the Frameworks document that match almost word-for-word what it says in the Week 23 Teacher's Notes, and you either want your student to read those sections beforehand, or you just want to go over the lecture with him thoroughly in class. Either way will work. :-)

Hope this helps!
