We are going to Rome during the week that we should be doing week 13. I'd like to study about Michelangelo before we go. So I'm wondering about doing week 13 and then week 12.

Well, I'll tell you - we just got back from a two-week trip, and we had to skip both weeks 12 and 13. Because we participate in a co-op, we couldn't just postpone the weeks, and my plans to have them read their books on the beach just didn't work out, somehow. And although we're having a few problems with weeks 14 and 15 because of skipping a couple of weeks, they aren't large ones, and the trip was worth it.

Someone else may be able to advise you more specifically, but if it were me, I'd definitely modify the teaching schedule in the weeks leading up to a trip to Rome! It should be worth it.

I'd like to cover as much as possible about the history/art of Rome as possible BEFORE we go and it seems that week 13 has more about the artists than week 12. Any comments?

We just finished Week 13 today, both of these weeks heavily cover the artists of this area and time period. There were readings in our UG assignments on Michelangelo, Leonardo di Vinci, and Raphael in both Week 12 and 13. What a great opportunity for your kids to see some of these pieces of art as well as the area which was so influenced by these artists. Lucky you ! My dd stated after finishing our readings this week that one of her dreams is to see the Pieta.

Sue just curious where in Germany are you, we are in Grafenwoehr, doing Y1. It is always nice to see other ToGers in our neck of the woods

We just finished week 13. Why don't you study the artists of week 12 and 13 first...go to Rome and be amazed...come back and share what that is like ...then study the explorers of weeks 12 and 13?

Ohhhhh, now THAT'S thinking "outside of the box"...I like that. We are planning to do week 11 this week, but maybe I could figure out how to do combine the artists of 11, 12 and 13 into two weeks and get all that info before we go.

Hey- has anyone already done that so I don't have to reinvent the wheel (that's the lazy side of me asking that question). (:

OT- Jackie. We're in Heidelberg. Last year I did year 1 and I didn't know any other TOG users. This year some of fellow started TOG after asking me what I used, but they all started with year 1 (except one family started with year 4). I wish someone was doing year 2 here, OR that there was someone else here who was a veteran Tapestry user- but apparently God decided that would be me. (:

I hear there are "alot" (not sure how many that is) in K-town area.

Do you have others hsers there? We have a great hs group/network here. Will you be here when you do year 2? Man, there are soooooo many applicable field trips that correlate to year 2. ..Cologne Cathedral for Gothic Cathedrals, Reims Cathedral where Joan of Arc went the coronation of the French king, all of the medieval castles...etc.

OT-sort of-
Sue, I needed to combine 2 weeks every unit so we could work in a week off to catch up on non-tog stuff (is there really such a thing?) anyways, TLT was very helpful, you could look for chatter about Virtual co-ops and see what their schedules look like!
on the OT side-although I know HSers exist here it is not organized in any way, shape or form...we have been trying but 4 families does NOT a group really make! Alas-K-town is HUGE , Heidelberg is Big and even Bamberg is adequate but our little enclave is in its "fledgling" stages...once we get some more families up in here it is sure to change but it doesn't help me right now LOL...I am looking forward to doing Y2 next year...it will be SO pertinent...since this is our 1st year with RH I am sort of glad we aren't trying to throw trips in on top of all the work my older kids have!! We will stay here for the next 6 years so anything we miss next year we will be able to hit when my youngest does Y2 RH, YEAH!!
My son wrestles Heidleberg in Jan...we may try to go and watch that one--we have friends there as well who knows we may "bump" into one another!
