In WritingAids Week 1, there is the assignment to write out some goals for writing for the year...anyone care to share what their children wrote down for this?
Although I may not be giving them enough credit, I anticipate an answer of "I don't know." Perhaps this is because I don't know what the goal should be! I was thinking I would just go over the simple Writing Aids S&S and tell them what they will be learning! That doesn't seem very personal though, and lacks in the "ownership" I'd like to instill this year. Looking forward to your answers! Lee PS I did find this post from 2005 called Writing goals/week 1. But I'm hoping some more people have done WA Week 1 since then and can share! |

Hello!
I like your thoughts on this post. I have not sat down and set goals with the two students I currently teach. My graduated daughter would have lists of goals for the areas she felt weak in. My boys will probably respond with some thing like, "goals, they will be whatever you tell us to do!" But, I am going to ask them to set some specific goals with me, since this will be an area of concentration for us this comming school year. Well, I did not answer your question, but thanks for the post and the idea!! Ellen |

Today was the day to write goals. I made a little form to be filled out & filed in their writing notebooks. At the top I put:
WRITING: Thoughts & Goals 1. What I enjoy about writing: 2. The most difficult thing(s) about writing: 3. This year I would like to write: I put four wide spaced lines after each question. My 10 & 12 yo filled them out with phrases and single words...we have a starting point! Lee |

Glad to be able to help!
On Friday, I had put "beginning of the year sample" as the writing assignment for my 7th, 5th & 2nd grader (2nd grader didn't do goals). I hadn't decided what to have them write (I didn't want it to be a free write, I wanted something about Egypt) until that day. I ended up giving them each a piece of notebook paper w/ the title "If I was an Ancient Egyptian" and then verbally mentioned some ideas of what they *could* write about -- things they enjoyed, didn't like, what their day was like, how things looked, etc. I'm looking forward to the end of our first year w/ TOG & Writing Aids -- comparing this sample w/ all that they've written as the year goes by!! I'll share...
My 13 yo wrote: My goals for this year are to learn an grow spiritually and mentally in History, Bible and all the other subjects. Other goals I have are to get fit during PE and pass in the Presidential fitness challenge. I want to pass my SAT's with flying colors. My 11 yo wrote: My number one goal is to learn more about God during Bible time. To be stronger in my faith, will help me accomplish every goal I have. My second and third goals are to learn to put others before me, and to work together. If I can learn how to work together, getting through some assignments would be a whole lot faster. Fourth, I could use some patience and fifth, I want better handwriting. ----------------------------------------------- We have our work cut out for us this coming year. I'm excited about TOG and the writing aids program. |
