Hi!

I never found the time to make use of the vocabulary words last year. I have 4 kids: 1 UG and 3 LG. What have you done practically speaking to implement them simply?

I do this as part of our Monday morning intro to the week. We go down the list orally in less than five minutes. If they know what the word means, great. If not, one of us types it into an online dictionary. My purpose is for them to understand the words as they they do their weekly reading. A side benefit is that it sparks their curiosity about what they'll be studying that week. When they ask what a specific word has to do with their studies, I grin and say, "You'll have to wait and see!" They can't wait to tell me when they encounter the word or the concept in their reading.

I've done a few things like lapbooks or games, but I've found that we just don't get to it every week that way.

Blessings,
Monica

Hi Valerie,
I am teaching 1 UG boy. I am actually making cross word puzzles out of the vocabulary words. There is a link from TOG Y2. I forget if it was on the Y2 'home' page, but think it was. It is very easy to use and does not take me very long. My guy loves puzzles and these encourage dictionary use, vocabulary, handwriting practice, etc! I have been making them each week and we are now on week 5 of y2. I think I may take a couple of hours to make the remaining ones for the rest of Unit 1. Or maybe even wait until I get my Unit 2 and do them all at the same time!
Blessings,
~Evelyn Mae

I frequently go to www.wordsmyth.net and make a matching quiz that my UG/D boy and LG boy work on as the complete the week's readings. I also have used crossword puzzles made at www. puzzlemaker.com for variety. I usually make them a few weeks at a time, although there have been a few Monday mornings where I had to sneek in time to make oneSmiler It doesn't take that much time to do, though.

Enjoy,
Beth
