Howdy,

So, in reading the intro to Year 1, the authors mention that character development should be a high priority in the LG years. I agree. However, is there a way to really incorporate character development in a fun way that makes a lasting impression? I have kids 7 and under, and just talking about it doesn't seem to be doing the trick. Smiler

Does anyone know of any good activity books, curriculums, books, etc that have good ways of teaching character?

Thanks!

We use some of the Queen Homeschool copywork books (manners, for boys, for girls, etc.) and really like them. We use these for dictation and handwriting practice--it's a great way to teach them something without really 'telling' them! We also like the young boys and girls Bible studies that Queen publishes. Alot of their products will deal with character issues without being an actual "character study". We find that by working character into our everyday life we get better results (as apposed to doing a formal curriculum).

Also Wee Ones is a little story leaflet with nice wholesome stories for young ones. We've noticed a sweet innocence come out of our children when we use them as our daily read aloud. I've got some other story type books that are great (old fashioned values & quaint speech) but I have loaned them out right now. Email me dwbrubaker@juno.com and I'll give you the titles later!

Hope this helps!

We read the Bible a lot and I pray that God will help me tie issues that my children are having to Biblical stories. This has worked really well. Further, I've read studies that show that children who do well following their parent's religous beliefs in certain areas are the children who do so because God's word says so not the children who do so because their parents say so. Which means I try not to say "Because I say so." This takes longer, but I think builds a better foundation.

What has helped us the most is taking the "Growing Kids God's Way Class". You can find them on the web at www.gfi.org. Enjoy!

"If you hold to my teaching,
you are really my disciples.
Then you will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free."
