This is our first year homeschooling and using TOG. We are only in our first week of TOG. Aside from the readings and activities what else should I be doing?

We tried doing a lapbook but the kit that TOG has is over their head with all the words and definitions. All my dc are lower grammer students and still working on learning how to read. Should I be adding in notebooking in addition to the reading?

Thanks!

You ask, "Should I..." I want to take the "should" out of your question. You have young kids, and you're in your first year, and history is not strictly necessary in early elementary anyway. It's more important to be sure you are where you need to be for math and reading and writing. (Will be you doing Tapestry writing? I love it, and it works out well even if your children can't put pencil to paper themselves.)

If your question is, "We love this Tapestry stuff and want to get more of it!" that's one thing. But if your question is, "It just doesn't seem to take much time, and I'm feeling guilty that maybe I'm not doing enough," then please be encouraged that you're doing great!

We are doing math, reading, writing, and phonics. TOG (M/W/F) and Science(T/TH)is added in the afternoon. We started two months ago using a different curriculum...so we are already in a good routine this year. I was just making sure that I was not missing something else I needed to be doing.
