Hello,

We are starting Apologia's Astronomy this year, and I was wondering how often to do it. It is also our first year with TOG, and a Classical method altogether, so I don't want to overwhelm my kids.

I know there are schedules and things like that on the Yahoo Apologia groups, and I've looked at them. I just don't know how well those schedules would do with also doing the TOG workload. My kids are all LG, but my oldest HSer will probably be UG by next year.

We are trying to finish Astronomy by the end of March. That's another concern of mine.

So how often do you do science, and for how long/how much per day?

Bekah,
We did Apologia's Astronomy this past year with my K, 2nd, & 3rd graders. I think 2-3 times per week is plenty. We took 2 weeks per chapter, but could have done some chapters more quickly. One day a week we took a lot of time, probably about an hour, and did the experiments and some hands on activities. The other days we just read aloud for 10-20 minutes and did oral narrations.

We have done the Apologia Astronomy and are currently mid-stream on Botany. Twice a week seems to work for us - reading and vocabulary/discussion on Tuesdays for 20-30 minutes, and reading and experiments on Thursdays for at least 30 minutes. (They occasionally take longer, but it's never lamented!)

God bless you in your transition to TOG and in your upcoming school year!
