Hi-

Which math curriculum would you recommend? I tried the ones that are sold at Sam's Club/Wal-Mart, but my 6 years old son isn't ready for concrete thinking skills yet. He needs something more abstract. He seems to like Rod Cusienaire type of thing. I am thinking about going on that path, but any other thoughts/opinions on math curriculums?

Tks-

Hi Dana,

Have you checked out "Math U See"? Here's a link:

http://www.mathusee.com/index.html

My son loves it!! He's a real "hands-on" learner...

Blessings!

Another vote for Math U See!

We used Miquon for 3 years with our oldest, and it was great for her learning style, but all of our girls love Math U See.

Hi Dana,
I would advise to look real hard at math u see before you buy anything!! I suppose there is no one fits all cirriculum, but for math this is about as close as it gets!

We started out with MUS but it went too slow for us. we were ready to move from abstract to concrete numbers without manipulatives. Now I use what I never thought I would...A BEKA. Love everything about it.

We use a combination of Miquon and Singapore. The miquon gives the hands-on and the singapore the basic/traditional stuff. www.singaporemath.com has samples, etc.

Elizabeth: mama to 2 boys, ages 7 and 9, who are using TOG Year 2, Singapore math, Apologia astronomy, Rod and Staff LA, sequential spelling, taking piano lessons, riding bikes, climbing trees, and giving up-to-the-minute weather reports. When I'm not working as an OB RN, my nose is in a book!

I know this is long past the first post, but just in case it benefits someone else: we started with Math U See, gung ho, and then we stalled. DS was just not getting it. We switched to Singapore and he has been doing great. Cheap alternative to check into. We do enhance with money, time, or fractions activites each day.
