Hello all,
In the Exploring Tapestry DVD, they said that is possible to substitute books on the reading list. Has anyone done that? I haven't actually seen the curriculum yet, so I don't know how specific the activities are with the recommended books. For example, Usborne has great books on most of the subjects for LG Year 1. Could I go with these books, or is it better to get the exact books listed? Thanks for your help!!

One of the great things about Tapestry is that it is topic-driven, not book-driven. In other words, you can use whatever resources you have at home or can find at the library to cover the threads listed each week. Tapestry guarantees that the information can be found in their suggested resources for completing assignments (for Redesigned year plans). But I've never had any problem substituting books.

The one exception is literature -- since discussions and worksheets are keyed to a specific title, you need to use that book to complete the Tapestry assignments.

Hope this helps! Blessings,
Monica

I substituted frequently when our library didn't have the required books. The literature selections are good to have exacts, and I can guarantee you that Usborne doesn't have some of the wholly Christian resources. Other than those, yes, feel free to substitute!

If you have the time, I would recommend getting the actual books from the library for the first few weeks to either use, or review and then decide what to substitute with. That way you'll get a more general idea of what kinds of books to buy, and you won't waste any money (though I doubt you could ever waste money on Usborne!).

Also, the activity/hands-on books recommended are out-of-this-world good!! If I had had the money then, I would have bought then. (We did Y1 last year.) This year, I made sure to save the money to actually purchase the activity books for Y2. We did some projects that weren't even in the curriculum, just because we had so much fun with them. Smiler

Enjoy your TOG year! It's going to be great.
