Do you study composers and artists with your LG children within TOG? We've been using Themes to Remember for music appreciation and I want to integrate it into history but I'm not even sure it if would be worth the time.
My dd7 is currently in her 2nd year of piano lessons, and I'm debating whether to integrate music appreciation which means to read about a composer as they appear in the history timeline & listen to their music using Themes to Remember or to just drop it completely until she's little older. I'm one of those that will go over the top with something at first and then settle down and I'm not sure if this is an area that I 'should' drop or keep it low-key. So I'm curious- what do you do? Artists too... ______________________________________ Jessica We're a Classically Charlotte homeschool www.triviumacademy.blogspot.com Using TOG Y3, with LG focus and Writing Aids |

My dd is in her 4th year of piano my ds in his 1st year of guitar.
I pick a couple of composers from the time peorid, I grab VOX Music Masters and play them, I also like As far as art, I use DGA I love that is is set up chronologically, I pick 1 artist for two months and we mimic several peices of thier work using several mediums. I have them work on an outline and create a finished paper. When we are done I take the art work and the final paper and have it comb bound. I've found my solution for this, which is Artistic Pursuits as far as they will line-up with TOG2 & 3 and then we'll use Discovering Great Artists with TOG3.
Music is still a little undetermined but I feel led to leave the biographies and extra reading for later years, we're continuing with Themes To Remember in an informal way. Thank you all for your thoughts, Jessica ______________________________________ Jessica We're a Classically Charlotte homeschool www.triviumacademy.blogspot.com Using TOG Y3, with LG focus and Writing Aids |

Jessica,
They dedicate year 3 to composers. Most of them are covered in week...3 or 4. Then the expectation is to continue to listen to the music all year. What I did was to take a list of all the composers up to 1900 (year 4), list them in birth order, then we are covering one every two weeks, listening to their music and reading about them. I also bought the Classical Kids story CD's (doesn't cover all of them, but many), then I ordered the Getting to Know the World's Greatest Composers (again, doesn't cover them all) and after ordering a couple of other books that didn't work out, decided I would just use Wikipedia for the rest. And I never go over the top with anything. But I do think it is doable, because most of it is audio and can be appreciated in the car. Heather p.s. Mostly just sharing because I am so excited to have a Fine Arts portion working for me. I know you already have something set. Married 18 years to a Computer Super Geek Mom to dd11, dd9, dd8 and ds6.
