This may seem like a silly question, but...

I understand the value using the sand or cornmeal for tracing and saying words in Spelling Power. I think we need this activity as we practice and build writing skills. My ds is ready for spelling in some form and asks to spell words daily, but I'm trying to bridge the writing skills in a painless, fun way.

What I don't understand is how you store this tool from day-to-day in non-messy manner.

What do you put this grainy stuff in? Do you have a cookie sheet with a lid? Do you dump it into a container after each use?

Does anyone have any other suggestion or should I just skip it?

Thanks for any input

Hi,
We stored ours in a tupperware type container with a lid, and just dumped it into a 9 X 13 baking pan whenever we used it.

Blessings,

Dana C. in TN

like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.
I will proclaim the name of the Lord.
Oh, praise the greatness of our God!"

Thanks Dana,

I don't know why I thought it should be more elaborate than this.

I know this is a really old post, but since we just started using cornmeal (and rice--uncooked!) for spelling, thought I'd post a reply. I bought two tin disposable pans with lids, and I store the cornmeal and rice in those. After they're done spelling (and the 2-year-old is done playing!), I just put the lids on and they go back on the counter. This method of spelling has REALLY helped my kinesthetic learner!

I'm another one with the tupperware-style container. We use uncooked rice in a cookie sheet, then I dump the rice into the container for storage. I keep a note at the top of the container indicating that the rice is for my son's schooling - not that I really think anyone else in the house will cook the rice (I'm the only cook in the family), but just to be on the safe side...
