Good Morning Everyone!
WE are taking this week off from our weekly co-op in order to do the Unit 1 exams (R level) and my guys also need to write their personal response papers. I am curious as to what other R students chose to do for their papers. Care to share what your high schooler did or will do? I am intrigued by the idea of writing something in the style of an author, but I am not sure how to instruct my guys on how to do that. Any ideas? Are you planning ahead for the analysis paper? Which book or poem did your students like best and what will they choose to write on? Any other literature topics you want to discuss? Blessings, April (who want to liven up this forum a bit!) |

Hi, April!
My guys wanted to write imaginative personal responses, but they couldn't decide how they wanted to go about it and opted instead for the more familiar style of a reflective personal response. One ds discussed the irony between the title and the content of All Quiet on the Western Front, how Remarque used the irony to communicate his ideas about war, and how the artistry affected ds. The other ds discussed the imagery in "Channel Firing" by Thomas Hardy, how Hardy used imagery to communicate the disillusionment many people felt as a result of the war, and how the imagery affected ds's perception of Hardy's message. We've not thought about the literary analysis paper, yet. I've read both the dialectic and rhetoric literature selections through week 15, and I must admit that I'm not enjoying the unit 2 dialectic and rhetoric literature selections as much as the unit 1 choices - maybe because I've read some of these a time (or two) before. The content seems much darker to me than the selections in unit 1. I'm hoping The Chosen is more hopeful. Blessings, Susan in La Mom to 16yods (R), 15yods (R), 12yo dd (D), 11yo dd (D) Redesigned 4 “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Gen. 1:28) |
