Thanks for all the wonderful information about how to set up a new plan. Every year, I find myself taking advantage of this information as a refresher.
But now, a few year plans into this journey, I need a way to store my printed year plans that will get them off the bookshelves of "active" books, so that I can fit my new year plan. Does anyone have experience/advice about how to "archive" my printed year plans? The only storage space I have is in the garage. What can I put these precious pages into that will protect them in the years I'm not using them? TIA |

You can store them in large plastic bins. That should keep them protected from moisture. I would not put them in an attic as heat will get at them no matter what you put them in.

We bought a small stoage cabinet and put it in the basement. I keep the teacher's manuals there that I am saving for another child. I keep each TOG unit in one 2" binder while I am using it. However, for storage, I found that I can squeeze 2 units into one 3" binder. Then it takes up a little less space and I didn't need to buy as many binders, just using some I already had.

I use "Rubbermaid-style" storage containers. I use separate containers for each Year Plan along with the year-specific books. (Any multi-year books I leave on the "active" shelf.)
I think WHERE you store them all depends on the climate -- for example: I cannot store books in my basement due to dampness...but I can store them in my attic. You just want to be aware of things like dampness and extreme heat... I live in Maine -- ~Amy (homeschooling K,J, & EJ for the Lord) |

I have my binders on a shelf in my school room/sewing room closet. The books for the school year are in rubbermaid containers. DH has mentioned the possibility of getting more bookshelves and then I could get rid of all the boxes and he could use that space for an office desk area, but that's at least a year away. (I've been looking at IKEA for bookcases.)
We live in MN. Our school room is in the basement. I wouldn't have my books in the garage because of the temperature changes here. Blessings to you and your family. Thank you ladies for your responses.
It occurred to me when I was doing dinner prep that maybe I can "shrink wrap" them and then put them in ziploc bags inside of rubbermaid containers. I have no choice but to use the garage because our home is so small that we just have enough room for the people. (In fact, I may even have to give up the classroom altogether to reclaim living space.) I appreciate the heads-up on climate changes. I'm hoping the idea of multiple wrapping will help. I'll ask my husband about some kind of dessicant to keep in the bin as well. Thanks a million |
