Right about now all of the big box stores are having their back to school sales, and you can often find simple two-divider paper folders for $.01 - $.05. Cut off the top 1/2 inch and a narrow margin of the spine, three hole punch, and you have a great spot to put loose work in your student notebook. I put these in my teacher planner book under each week to keep future handouts. You can also spiral bind the modified folders "pages" directly into mapbooks.

Often those flimsy, plastic, 1/2 binders are very inexpensive in July and August as well. I cut the 3-ring portion out and use the plastic covers for our mapbooks. It is a great savings over buying a "real" report cover and much sturdier.
