Overall, I was very please with the results of my son's Unit exams. However, on the timeline portion of both the Unit 2 and the Unit 3 Exams my son's results were difficult for me to assign points. In each case he filled in the first 5 or so blanks correctly, then got one wrong, and then several of the following blanks were filled in "off" by one event. So, "technically" the next few answers were wrong after that, but they were in the correct sequence chronologically.

For example, for the Unit 3 evaluation he was correct on the first few answers: Jamestown, 30 Years War, Mayflower Compact, Plymouth Colony and Massachusetts Colony, etc. But then he did not put "Fundamental Orders of Connecticut" in the blank line for 1639. Thus, English Restoration, King Phillip's War, Glorious Revolution were in the correct sequence but off by a few years.

Question: How would you score those items? He really wants a % score and a letter grade.

(We have decided that one possible solution for the future is to exactly memorize a few key events and people/dates, place those on the timeline of the exam with certainty, then fill in the events/people of which he is less sure of the exact dates, but fairly certain of the sequence.)

Hi Beth Ann,
Personally, I would just count one wrong. Smiler I would, however, encourage him to learn dates with events, rather than a list of events. But still, I'd say that he did a fine job if that's the only error he made!

Blessings,

like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.
I will proclaim the name of the Lord.
Oh, praise the greatness of our God!"
