What artists do you cover in this time period with a LG/UG student? It doesn't have to be what TOG plans, just what ones you cover if you do this. One or two a month is fine.

I was thinking of getting the book Masterpieces Up Close by Claire d'Harcourt, because it focuses on the details of paintings from 14th to 20th century but I'm not sure what to do. We've been using Artistic Pursuits but for 3rd grade art we're going to do Drawing with Children by Brooks for art lessons. I still want art appreciation within the framework of history though.

I do have Annonated Mona Lisa, The Story of Painting, American Masterpieces (S.W. Beckett) and Art History by Marilyn Stokard but they are more for dialectic and rhetoric stages I think.

Also, my dd seems to enjoy creating things and I was looking at activity books for Year 3- do you have any suggestions or opinions on these?

American Revolution (Hands-On History) by Michael Gravois

Hands-on History: Pioneers by Michael Gravois

Primary Sources Teaching Kit: Colonial America by Karen Baicker

or possibly History Pockets. We've LOVED the Treasure Chest kits but there doesn't seem to be any for this time period. I want crafts that are self-contained in the activity book for the most part, we don't need any activity pages like crossword puzzles and multiple choice.

Thank you for any help or direction you can provide!
Jessica

FYI, I consider my dd a LG/UG student because before using TOG- we've already used a good many of the books listed under UG. Smiler

We are halfway through Year three. Off the top of my head we studied Benjamin West, using the Marguerite Henry book.

Nothing like not really finishing a post before you send it...

I downloaded two eBooks from Wowio (free),with activities, one for Westward Expansion and one for the Civil War.

The boys like for us to have food from the country or area. So I always check out a kids cookbook from the library on the subject.

OK, I think I really done now, Smiler
