Hi,

I'm wondering about this book and colonial living are both of them necessary for unit 3? I'm trying to down size the expense of books that I still need for units 3 and 4. Thanks
Lisa

Hi! I haven't used Colonial Living since we haven't done yr 2 yet. I did want to mention that we've used the America Ready to Use ... book multiple times in yr 3. It's been great for hands on activities, unit celebrations, and extra activities (maps, word searches, fold tales, etc.). Sorry I didn't answer your question exactly, but I've really enjoyed using this book.

Blessings,
Monica

Colonial Living is not necessary. It mainly describes the physical way of life during colonial times: how people slept and cooked and traveled and worked and such. It's quite a lot of text, with nice drawings as well.

If you're on a strict budget, you can skip it. However, my kids think it's fabulous. They checked it out of the library a couple of years ago, and when our new books arrived two days ago, my 14yod couldn't believe that we now owned a copy of it. She begged me to let her read it early.

You may want to go to some effort to check it out of the library. It wouldn't be necessary to read it exactly when it's scheduled, so it would be a good candidate for interlibrary loan if your local library doesn't have it. If your kids fall in love with it the way mine did, then you could always buy it later, knowing exactly what you're getting. Smiler

thanks for the input. Sounds like my kids will love that book too then. Well, I can always do what we usually do when needing curriculum - here we skimp on our groceries (LOL) to buy the books we want not necessarily need.
