Each year we have used TOG (we start Y3 in 2 weeks ), I have had to condense/compress sequential weeks several times during the year. This happens for various reasons not the least of which are extended field trips. I want to value the learning that is done during those "off-TOG" weeks, so I don't just tag a week onto the end of school...(but, I want to complete the year in a year, too). Instead, I plan to do two weeks less thoroughly, during the same calendar week. Sometimes the ones to condense are obvious (we've just done a unit about the major theme, we've been to that area of the world, etc). This year, however, it is NOT obvious. So I wonder...if you had to do Y3 (36 weeks long) in 34 weeks, which weeks would you double up on? In case it matters (which I'm sure it does), I have kiddos in LG, D and R levels. We moved from Texas to Virginia this past spring and we had an easy time doing 3 weeks in 1 for Unit 4, weeks 28-30 on Africa. I lectured the historical content from the Teacher Notes, while they brought their own meanings from reading David Livingston, Mary Slessor, King Solomon's Mines and Heart of Darkness. I wish we had time to dig deeper, but sometimes life drives us to shorten the route. They did get a terrific grasp of the historical threads.
We start year 3 on Monday!! I have us combining weeks 3 and 4, and then 13 and 14. Now we will actually do weeks 3 and 4 in 7 days. (We are going to the beach the other 3.) I haven't got to planning all of 2nd semester yet. I also have a r(9th) d (7th) and lg (2nd)
