This past year was our first with TOG. We love it! However it has been a particularly difficult year with the loss of my father and taking in my husband's nieces. Needless to say our homeschooling took the brunt of that.

We were able to complete the first 3 units of year 1 but not the 4th. So here is my question...how do I plan for the coming year which is supposed to start Monday? I really don't want to skip unit 4 as I feel Rome has some very significant historical value. But I don't know that I will be able to finish 5 units in one school year.

I have ordere Year 2 and looked over the weekly topics and I'm not sure what I could "skip" there either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much.

Hi Tiffany,

I am in the same boat. We moved and suffered our third "untimely" death in 2 years when one of my younger brothers died in February. God knows all this, he helps me get through the rough patches and I am thankful for the growth that occurs during times of tribulation.

I am following the condensed unit four schedule that Marcia posted here.
Our school year will last 40 weeks. My oldest is in high school and I would love to stay on track this year (Lord willing of course. Smiler )

I'm sorry for your loss.

Karen

I just found the condensed schedule but are they just doing the reading? No activities, writing, evaluations, etc?

I'm condensing the questions and activities as well. Just go through and pick out the ones you want to cover and leave the rest.

We are in a similar situation, mainly b/c we started Y1 in October and didn't get finished. We actually have units 3 & 4 to complete. I decided to finish them in "record time" by December. I have it all planned out. Then start Y2 in January. We will then try to fit that entire year in by the following September, which may mean we don't take off as much next summer. (We took off too much this year.) Since I have two high schoolers, it is important for me to get them caught up and on track and something else will have to suffer...like summer break.

I have 2 high schoolers as well.

We normally school year round but a "year" typically ends in July or August. I would rather school in the summer when its miserable in Texas and take a big break over Christmas or the spring time. Smiler

I am going to give this condensed version a shot and move on from there.
