We are in week 5 of unit 1 for level 6. I can not find the graphic organizer to go with the genres we learned about this week. I have searched the Writing Aids CD and can't find it. Is it under a special heading that I might be missing? Thanks. ~Faye

Faye,
I see that no one has answered this yet. I'm not sure how much help I can be, but I'll attempt it. You didn't mention what year-plan you're using, but I'm looking at my Year 1, and level 6 for week 5 includes graphic organizers. In Writing Aids there is a section on "Graphic Organizers" that explains a little bit about choosing appropriate ones for various topics, and a little bit about that under "Prewriting" in the "Steps in the Writing Process" section. I haven't yet seen anything that very specifically tells you which organizer to use with which genre. There are lots of overlaps: For example, a "5-w's" or a cluster diagram, ladder diagram, or a sequencing chart could be used for a narrative paragraph; a cluster can be used for many different genres. If you look under level 4 for the same week (assuming the writing assignments in your year-plan are the same as mine), you'll see some suggested organizers to use with the various genres; level-4 students would need more direction with this, so it's given in the writing assignment.
HTH!

Faye,

Are you looking at the main table of contents page for you Writing Aids CD? If memory serves me, you can look in the chart at the genre you're studying (say, narrative writing), and there will be a link to an appropriate graphic aid for that genre.
