We are having much trouble with question number one specifically but this week is tougher than it looked at first.
Are we to draw on past knowledge from weeks 19 - 20 to answer this or does it draw specifically from this week's reading assignments? We have Compl Idiot's Guide, Korean War (20th cent persp) and Cold War (20th Cent). If I were to help my son write a paragraph about Mao's view of the Korean War - we could reread from last week's Rise of Modern China that they were brainwashing those who didn't support the regime and how Mao sent 250,000 troops across the border and into the battle zone. When the battle deadlocked and China lost nearly one million soldiers (all taken from Rise of Modern China book) Mao portrayed this as a victory. What would an acceptable paragraph look like here for an 8th grader? Also, is it realistic to expect them to be able to read Compl. Idiot's Guide, Korean War, and Cold War as well as answering even number one of the Thinking Questions (one paragraph for each of the 4 men mentioned)? also we can't find much information about Stalin's views of the Korean War. I've gone back through the teacher's notes and didn't see much mentioned there either about Stalin. Thanks for any help you may offer. Stephanie |
