Hi all,
This will be our 2nd year using TOG and our first year of using Writing Aids, I've had WA for awhile, getting acquainted with it so I feel comfortable with it now.

My concern is that when I assessed Levels 1-3 for my 3rd grader, I feel she would most benefit from starting in Level 2 because at this point we have done informal writing and grammar without the use of graphic organizers.

My question is if I start her off in Level 2 in 3rd, will she be a level behind always? Or is it your experience that a child can jump a level within a year? The learning seems very sequential to me, very well planned out - thank you Marcia, Dana and Beth!!!

I don't know if this is something that I should be concerned about or not. If it is I'll have to look at where I can combine Levels to get us on track, I'm looking for a more experienced opinion on this.

Thank you for reading,

You shouldn't have much trouble getting her ahead. You can either do it this year, or another year if you prefer.

Last year was our first year with a serious effort at the writing program. My younger kids started at grade level, but my 9th grader started at level 9 and then had to drop back to level 8. This year, for 10th grade, I've gone through and looked at the 9 and 10 assignments. I've come up with a list of assignments that should enable her to cover the important concepts well enough that she can go into 11 the following year, assuming she's ready. If not, we'll repeat level 10 or (more likely) do a 10/11 combo.

I wouldn't worry too much about this just yet. Later, once you've worked with this a while and know more about both your child's writing abilities and the writing program, I think you'll be able to figure this out without too much difficulty.
