I'm a newbie to TOG and just got back from the library where I picked up our books for Week 1. I was looking at the Reading Assignments for UG in Make it Work! Ancient Egypt. Are we supposed to do all of the suggested crafts listed in the Reading Assignment chart or just pick one. Looking through the book, they seem pretty elaborate. I'm intimidated at the idea of finishing just one. How do you all handle the Arts and Activities section?

Never mind. I just found my own answer when I turned to the SAPs for Week 1. But I am wondering how in the world we could make a beaded collar. Maybe for Week 1 we'll keep it simple and stick with the model of the Nile Valley.

There's no "supposed to" here. How I handle the arts and activities is that my kids are lucky if they do one or two per unit. This varies hugely between families. I'm hoping we'll be doing more activities this fall now that I've started a co-op.

If it makes you feel better, I found the Make It Work book to be a wonderful visual of the time period, but my older child's activity book was much more useful in providing crafts we could handle.

Thanks, Beth.
That makes me feel better. I have great intentions when it comes to hands-on activities, but sometimes the follow-through just isn't there. Plus, I bought a new art curriculum that I'm looking forward to, and I was wondering how to cram it all in. Maybe we'll pick one or two activities per unit and display them for grandparents at our Unit Celebrations. Holly |
