This link is for a downloadable pattern to make a helmet from poster board. We made this in metallic silver and gold. You can attach feathers or ornament as you like.

For what it's worth, my boys are still using their helmets on a regular basis over a year later. They loved this project! You can get metallic poster paper most places, where it's silver on one side and gold on the other, if your kids are like mine and want "authenticity".
