I've just completed 4 years of using Classic and am now beginning Redesign. (wow - I loved Classic, but so far I'm really appreciating the work that went into the changes!)
I used to photocopy the writing assignment charts for my students' levels for them to keep in their writing notebooks. Now I see that those have been broken up into the week plans instead of having all one level in 4 pages as they were in the base unit. How have Redesign users handled this - do you photocopy the page with your student's level on it for each week? Do you just let your students access your unit-binders? (What?! those paper-tearing, leaving-binders-on-the-floor-to-get-stepped-on kiddos handle MY binders??)
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Bonnie

No, I try not to photocopy any more than I have to. So, yes, I have my children access my binders. LOL! That said, I have three girls who are all older than 6th grade so they are good about taking care of my stuff. Although maybe it was my threat of no allowance that did it? hhhmmm....

Bonnie,

I have never photocopied the writing assignment chart. Instead, I use page protectors - selectively!

For each week-plan, I put the reading and writing assignment charts in page protectors. If there are other pages that I think the kids may need to use, I protect those, too. I also page-protect the last page in the binder, as well.

Selectively protecting these sheets works out to protect the other sheets, as well. So I get a lot of the benefits of page protectors without the expense, trouble, and bulk of protecting all the pages.

The Loom does contain a document with brief overviews of each level's writing assignments. It is a two page document for each level. It does not include as much detail as the weekly in the manual stuff does, BUT for my 11, that is all I gave him in print. He read the manual with me at his weekly meeting and has access to it during the week.
